Volunteer Opportunity: Become a Trustee with Rural Action Derbyshire

Rural Action Derbyshire (RAD) are a well established, independent charity supporting rural communities across Derbyshire. Their mission is to tackle rural disadvantage and build stronger, more connected places to live and work. From addressing food and fuel poverty to promoting affordable housing and supporting digital inclusion, RAD’s work touches a wide range of essential rural issues.

They are currently seeking new Trustees to join their Board and help guide the organisation’s strategy, ensure good governance, and support the executive team in delivering RAD’s charitable aims. Trustees play a key role in overseeing the charity’s work, offering insight, constructive challenge, and strategic input – without being involved in day-to-day operations.

What they’re looking for:

RAD welcomes applications from individuals of all backgrounds, particularly those who reflect the diversity of rural Derbyshire or have lived experience of rural disadvantage. Experience in areas such as housing, transport, digital inclusion, food/fuel poverty, domestic abuse, or environmental sustainability is especially valuable – but not essential. A full induction and mentoring will be provided.

Time Commitment:

  • 4 board meeting per year (mostly online)
  • Occasional sub-committees or working groups
  • Read and consider meeting materials ahead of meetings

How to Apply:

Please complete the short application form on RAD’s website by Monday 22nd September at 10am.

Shortlisted applicants will be invited for an informal interview in Matlock and, if successful, will be invited to observe the next Board meeting on 29th October, with formal appointment at the AGM that follows.
