Befriending
The Befriending team support people in the Derbyshire Dales who are living with life-limiting conditions by offering companionship and practical help. Delivered by our dedicated volunteers, the service includes one-to-one befriending, subsidised transport to cancer-related appointments, and a Women’s Cancer Support Group. They aim to reduce isolation, make attending healthcare easier and provide ongoing emotional and social support during difficult times.
Transport
Our Transport Service provides accessible, volunteer-driven travel across the High Peak and Derbyshire Dales for people who cannot use public transport due to disability, illness, or other support needs. We help with healthcare appointments, group activities, social outings and wider travel across mainland UK.
Journeys are provided by DBS-checked volunteer drivers, who can usually wait during medical appointments (up to 2 hours) and take passengers home afterwards if needed.
A fixed charge applies depending on distance, invoiced monthly. While we aim to support all requests, journeys depend on volunteer availability and we recommend booking as early as possible (at least 72 hours’ notice where possible). The service operates seven days a week, with booking teams based in Buxton and Ashbourne.
Home from Hospital
The Home from Hospital Service supports adults of any age who need help returning home after a hospital stay, or who may be at risk of admission or readmission. Delivered by trained volunteers, the service provides up to six weeks of free support to help people settle back into daily life safely and with confidence.
Support includes practical help such as shopping and prescription collection, making the home comfortable, arranging safety equipment like key safes or telecare and help with bills, appointments, and transport. Volunteers also provide companionship and a listening ear, helping to reduce isolation during recovery.
Referrals can be made by individuals themselves or by family, friends, or professionals, with a central referral line coordinating access across Derbyshire.
Tea, Talk & Tech
Tea, Talk & Tech is a relaxed, friendly group that helps people build confidence using digital technology while enjoying a cup of tea or coffee. Supported by patient and knowledgeable volunteers, the sessions make technology easier to understand and use, helping people stay connected and more independent in everyday life.
The group focuses on how digital skills can improve wellbeing – helping people stay in touch, build new connections and explore new opportunities. It also helps reduce isolation and supports both mental and physical health.
